“The beauty of the journey”
Emanuel Ungaro Suit Set, Ankle Boots and Beaded Shawl – Thrift Store 🙂
Donovan took the pictures above around Union Market in D.C. and I couldn’t believe how different things had become. Small owned and wholesale stores that once occupied the space were slowly turning into coffee shops.
I became familiar with New York Ave at Union Market when I was younger, I knew the place as a farmer’s market first. My mom and I would go there once or twice a week to get supplies for our family owned International grocery store. By 5:30 a.m. we would arrive in DC with a long check list of items to tackle moving from wholesaler to wholesaler. We would make our way to the fresh produce place then we would head over to the meat factory to get boxes of cut goat meat, smoked turkey, etc. My mom and I would be back on the road by 9:00 am left with just one hour before we had to open the grocery store. On our way back, the family van would be many inches lower. The many boxes weighed down the car while the good ol smell of smoked chicken lingered in the car. We packed the boxes in a way that we would still be able to use the rare view mirror, sort of, haha. These trips at the age of 14 gave me a good sense of what hard work looked like. Years later, the trips to the farmer’s market would continue. Except now, I was the one driving and picking up items while my mom would open the store.
(The beauty of the journey) So much of my love of entrepreneurship comes from my mom and my experiences while helping to manage our family owned grocery store. This summer I am relaunching my clothing brand Fancy Muffin! So much goes on behind the scenes with creating, designing, shooting and all of that. I’ve had my doubtful days, my super productive days and some days where all I’ve want to do is stay in bed with my cat by my side and not think about sewing, haha. So thankful for my supportive family and friends through it all. Fancy Muffin will be launching in May, stay tuned YALLLL!
To put everything into perspective, your journey is unique because it is YOUR OWN. No one can take that away from you. When you start comparing where you currently are to someone else’s success, you shy away from your purpose and start to seek someone else’s portion. Stay focused and believe in what you are pursuing.
Enjoy the journey, it’s the most beautiful part.
